Beat the Heat Recipes and Treats

Beat the Heat

It is crazy hot and humid everywhere this week, yesterday in DC we had a heat index of 109!! Not fun. At all. When it’s this hot my appetite is seriously decreased (although not gone, never gone in my case), the idea of cooking is seriously unappealing and I definitely don’t like to eat anything heavy. I typically live off of smoothies in the summer time, to beat the heat by keeping things light and to avoid having to spend valuable beach or pool time at the grocery store (#priorities). Along with smoothies I’m a huge fan of salads that I can make a big bowl of and keep in the fridge so I can have a little whenever I’m hungry.

I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite things to eat and drink to help beat the heat during this awful heat wave!

Watermelon Lime Popsicles – I drank watermelon juice or ate watermelon popsicles or slushies of some sort almost every day in Bali and they are seriously refreshing.

Greek Orzo Salad – in the summer time my mom always had a big bowl of this in the fridge for us to be able to grab a quick bowl of something for dinner!

Infused water is a great way to mix it up when staying hydrated during the summer, I’m a huge fan or strawberry and basil or lime, cucumber and mint!

Watermelon salad is my favorite discovery from last summer, it’s so good even though it sounds like one of the strangest things ha! Give it a try, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

These are just a few of my favorite snacks that I always keep on hand when I need to beat the heat in the summer time. Stay tuned over the next few weeks for a few of my favorite smoothie recipes, I might even try and do a little vlog about some of them!

What are some of your favorites?
