2 weeks ago i crossed another thing of my my 101 in 1001 list, speaking of which i owe you guys an update on the list, i crossed a bunch of things off this summer so i’ll work on that this week! anyways, a couple of weeks ago i adopted a kitten, i’ve been wanting to for a while and when i was at target there was an adoption fair going on next door at the pet store and i figured i’d stop by and just look. well, sophie and i bonded pretty much immediately and i couldn’t resist so i decided to adopt her!

adopting a pet is a big decision, and not one to be take lightly. they are expensive, require a lot of love and attention and time. i have been thinking about it for months, i grew up with cats and a dog and knew when i moved into my place i’d want one of my own to make it feel like home. even though i’ve been thinking about this for such a long time i feel like adopting sophie happened so fast, all of a sudden i was bringing home this little bundle of attention-hogging energy home with me who has completely changed the feel of my apartment and my routine. she was only 8 weeks old when i adopted her so she’s still pretty tiny (only 2.5 pounds!) and it’s been a lot of fun to watch her find all the hiding places there are in my apartment, and less fun disciplining her when she does things like climb up one of my dresses hanging in my closet using her claws.

adopting is really rewarding, while checking out at the pet store (i may have gone a tiny bit overboard with the amount of toys i got her) everyone was so excited that i was adopting! there are so many kittens and puppies that need forever homes, it was hard for me to walk away at the pet store, i would have taken home all of them (if i didn’t live in a 600 sq ft apartment!) i totally clicked with sophie though so it was a no-brainer who was going home with me. last chance animal rescue is great though, they do a great job of finding forever homes for so many animals, i was happy to be able to help them in their mission!

adopting a pet is a big but a fun step, it’s great learning about their personalities and learning to live together! for me it has really helped to make the apartment feel like home, its amazing how much a 2.5 pound animal will do to change the way you live! do you have any pets?
