Weekly Words of Wisdom: Courage

Courage Quote

This is one of my favorite quotes of all time (how often do I say that, probably too much, but I really mean it with this one ha!) it’s from We Bought a Zoo (if you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it, one of those great family movies that most of us without kids don’t see all too often!) After falling in love with this movie a couple of years ago this quote has stuck with me. I try and remember it on the days that I’m feeling like I can’t do it (whatever it may be), when I’m nervous of what will happen, or more often, what won’t happen. 20 seconds of courage to make a decision and potentially change your life. Another saying I love is: 90% of the things we worry about, never end up happening, I think too often we worry so much about what’s could or might happen after we do something that we don’t have the courage to do it. We waste time and energy stressing about the possibility of a negative outcome and ultimately decide to step back and not risk it, which is so silly because you can’t gain anything without taking a risk first. There’s always a possibility that we’ll fail, fall flat on our faces and have to start from scratch but without having the courage to take the risk in the first place we’ll never know what we’re capable of! I’m constantly reminding myself that I can’t predict the future, I have no idea what is going to happen next, and while it could be less than ideal it could also be life changing and completely amazing. I’m trying to apply this quote to my work and also to bree west, whether it’s hitting publish on a less than perfect and vulnerable or sensitive post or taking big steps to grow this space and develop it more, I’m going to try really hard to take 20 seconds of courage and just go for it!

What do you think about this quote? How could you apply it to your life or work?
