Weekly Words of Wisdom: Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta Words of Wisdom

I wanted to take today’s post to remember one of the greats that we sadly lost this week, and share some of Oscar de la Renta’s words of wisdom. He was truly a legend, a world renowned fashion icon, he designed for my fashion icon, Jacqueline Kennedy along with most of Hollywood and designed inaugural dresses for Nancy Reagan, Hilary Clinton and Laura Bush. He has left a lasting impression on the fashion world and set an exceptionally high standard for women’s fashion!

“Walk like you have three men walking behind you.”

“Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.”

“The qualities I most admire in women are confidence and kindness.”

“Fashion is about the present and the immediate future. I think in terms of now.”

“Being well dressed hasn’t much to do with having good clothes. It’s a question of good balance and good common sense.”

“I hate pretty. It’s a very empty word. It gives a bad name to beauty.”

“What women have achieved in the last 50 years, I wish men would have achieved in the last 100.”

Mr. de la Renta cared deeply about designing and the women he designed for. He was a visionary and will be dearly missed by all. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Mr. de la Renta and I hope that they are finding peace and closure in his passing.
