I love Eastern Market, it might be my favorite spot in the city actually, and it’s even better in the Fall, just one more reason I love this season! I look forward to these days, the cool, crisp air, a cup of hot apple cider and apple and pear samples for days. I love heading over there and wandering around for a couple of hours and having brunch or lunch outside, it’s the perfect thing to do on a Saturday or Sunday in the fall, if you’re visiting DC I would highly recommend incorporating the market into your itinerary or if you’re new to the area and haven’t wandered over there yet head over and let me know what you think!
There are drool worthy boxes of apples, pears, pumpkins, squash, the juiciest tomatoes and I’ve ever seen every other kind of produce imaginable everywhere you look. The best part is, each stand cuts up samples of everything for you to nibble on as you wander!
If you’re a foodie like me then you will love wandering through the produce stalls piled high with the freshest fruits and veggies you can get in DC! And if you head inside there are some of the greatest fish and meat stalls imaginable, I have still not found better ground beef than the stuff I get at Eastern Market.
This time of year I always start at the same spot, the very first produce stand always has homemade hot apple cider, on a cool day there are few things better than walking around outside with a cup of hot cider! After that a wander through the outdoor market and nibbling along the way followed by poking my head inside to grab some fresh flowers and mage some meat or cheese is the best way to go!
This time around I was there around lunch time so I headed to one of my favorite hole in the wall spots, Tortilla Cafe, for some pupusas and carne asada.
Finishing up the trip with a tour through the flea market to listen to some live music, and take a look at all the amazing art, jewelry, clothing and all the other little treasures you can find, its the perfect way to spend a fall day in DC!
Have you been to Eastern Market, what’s your favorite part?
