One of our afternoons Mind Body Soul Surf Bali brought us a little different taste (quite literally) of wellness than our other days. An amazing chocolatier, Suki, came in and taught us not only how to make raw chocolate but also all the amazing benefits of it.
Raw chocolate contains the phenylethylamine or the joy molecule and anadamide or the bliss chemical, and is higher in antioxidants than any other fruit or vegetable. It is also considered a superfood because of the high concentration of nutrients.
Because of the combination of nutrients raw chocolate can lower blood pressure and improve circulation, promote cardiovascular function and health, neutralize free radicals, improve digestion and enhance physical and mental well-being.
Um sign me up. If I can eat the incredible chocolate we made with Suki and reap all of these benefits then I’m in. Plus the chocolate is incredible, my favorite one was one we made mixed with the trail mix we had been munching on all week. We also made one with instant Balinese coffee that was delicious.
The finished product was so good, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t particularly like chocolate. It wasn’t crazy sweet and it was incredibly satisfying. After just a small taste I didn’t feel the need to keep eating it like normal chocolate. It was enough to satisfy the craving!
Suki was great, she talked about chocolate and the process of making it with so much passion and excitement. I wish I could bring you your own personal Suki to give you the same amazing experience that I did when it came to making amazing chocolate.
The most important ingredient to make amazing chocolate is love. Make chocolate with true love and passion and don’t rush the process. Like everything we talked about throughout the week, there was a heavy focus during the workshop on being present while making raw chocolate. Suki reminded us to create a beautiful and meditative practice when making chocolate and to focus on being aware and present from start to finish.
I am going to attempt to recreate the recipes we made during our workshop over the next few weeks and will be sure to share them with you so you can enjoy it just as much as I did!
