A couple weekends ago I was in New York visiting friends (again) and having my first really tiny taste of New York Fashion week. Unfortunately, everything that could have gone wrong pretty much did starting with my car not starting and missing the first show I was supposed to be heading to and ending with a lost camera charger and a dead iPhone. Needless to say I have zero pictures but it was still an awesome experience and I learned a lot about how to not do fashion week and feel like I have a much better strategy going into for the next one!
One thing I did get some pictures of was my the awesome shuffleboard bar in Brooklyn that we went to, Royal Palms.
I have to admit I was very skeptical when they first told us about it, we had to trek through a snow storm to a bar to play shuffleboard in Brooklyn? I wasn’t entirely on board. But then we got there and walking inside was like being at a hotel in Palm Beach.
It was a very unassuming building from the outside, or at least I think it was, it was cold and snowing so I wasn’t entirely paying attention.
But when you walked inside it’s bright and airy and on either side of the bar, that feels like a beach or pool front bar, there are cabana style booths, that we were lucky enough to snag. The drinks were incredible and served in mason jars, if you happen to stop by try the Earl’s Ball.
Even the wall paper in the bathroom made me feel like I was at The Breakers and should be wearing full Lilly Pulitzer, although I imagine that I would be laughed out of Brooklyn if I showed up in anything Lilly…
My team wasn’t exactly about to qualify for the Olympics… but we definitely had fun.
A little too much fun, they had to ask us to leave… a couple of times since they were closing. Although one of the perks of being the last people there was being able to get a couple of pictures while it was empty!
I wish I had taken more pictures because there were so many cool things about this bar, one of which was they don’t have a kitchen at the bar. Instead they have a garage door on one side that a different food truck pulls up to every night. They also have a whole collection of board games that you can play at your table while you’re waiting for your court!
I’ve been having so much fun spending so much time up in New York this month and I’m really excited to go back up there this weekend. I’ve met a ton of new people and been able to do a lot of different things that I wouldn’t be able to do in DC, like shuffleboard in Brooklyn! This will be my last weekend up there for a while I think and I’d love to hear any suggestions you may have for places to try so feel free to send them my way!
