It is finally feeling like fall in D.C. and I couldn’t be happier about it. Fall has always been my favorite season, I love everything about it, the weather, food, apple picking with a cup of cider, post season baseball, but my favorite part is definitely breaking out my sweaters.
We landed from Florida on Monday and the first thing I did was head down to our storage unit and get all of my fall/winter clothes so I could have all my sweaters in anticipation of the cool weather this week.
Unfortunately last year my sweater stock was pretty significantly depleted by a moth infestation in my closet, I lost some of my all time favorite sweaters and blazers because of irreparable holes caused by the moths. The meltdown that ensued wasn’t pretty…
The only silver lining of the incident is that I get to restock and pick up some new sweaters this year! My rules of thumb when it comes to sweaters are quality over quantity, choosing colors and styles that will stand the test of time and serve me for seasons to come, and finally reaching for pieces that will mix and match with basics.

I bet you’re all pretty shocked that that means navy and white stripes, huh?
I actually bought this sweater earlier in the spring, it’s a great transitional piece. Lightweight enough to wear before it gets really cold, but will still keep you cold as the air starts to have a little bit of a chill in it! I wore it all summer long over sundresses and with jean shorts and have been wearing it this fall. I love a good multi-season sweater, it might not be quite warm enough once it gets truly cold here in D.C. but for now, it’s perfect!
I rounded up a bunch of cozy essentials below to get you through sweater weather this year and for years to come!
