Since most of my wardrobe tends to lean toward professional “workwear” these days, and I spend 80% of my time in work clothes, 10% of the time in yoga pants, and the other 10% in normal “streetwear” I thought it was about time to start a Workwear Wednesday series! Throughout this series I’ll share actual outfits I wear to work and tips on how to dress for different office environments! Whether you work in an uber professional office or a more business casual environment, it’s my hope that you’ll be able to find something in this series.
Ann Taylor has been a staple in my wardrobe for as long as I can remember, they have a great mix of timeless wardrobe staples and trendier items that have just enough of a classic feel that they won’t go out of style regardless of the trend of the moment.
The past year, I’ve been really focused on buying fewer, better things. Which means I tend to avoid trendy pieces that I’ll only wear for one season. I love Ann Taylor’s collection of workwear because I don’t feel like I have to sacrifice style to be professional. For this outfit, I swapped out a traditional blazer for a cute blush moto jacket that works just as well at the office over this houndstooth dress as it does with jeans and a t-shirt on the weekend.
Other fun touches to this outfit is the two toned leather purse. The brown actually slides out to become a great little clutch! My favorite part of the outfit though? These heels. The tassels on the front add an elevated loafer feel to the shoe and they are so comfortable! I have gravitated toward block heels lately because I spend so much time on my feet at the office and they add just a little bit of extra stability on the marble floors throughout Congress. I was worried about the stability of this particular heel, and boy was that worry misplaced. Not only are these shoes super stable, they are also incredible comfortable, I have, on more than one occasion worn them for 12 hour days with no problems!
For versatile workwear, you really can’t beat Ann Taylor, but one of the reasons I’ve been loving the brand so much lately is all the other pieces they have beyond the workwear! Seriously, I find myself shopping there more than anywhere else lately! If you are local to D.C., I’ll be at the Ann Taylor in Tyson’s Corner tomorrow night from 6-8, stop by for some treats and drinks and check out some of the outfits I’ve curated from their fall line (spoiler alert: there’s lots and lots of amazing cashmere!!)
