The holiday season is in full force here in D.C., looking at my calendar I have something scheduled every night from now until the 21st, and then I head up to Boston for 4 family parties in 3 days! Even though it’s hectic, it’s my favorite time of year, everyone just seems to be generally happier, under a little less pressure, excited for the holidays, and all dressed up in sequins and pretty things!
With so many events, I have been looking for a fun, standout holiday dress I can wear. When Gal Meets Glam holiday collection came out last month there were a few contenders but the Ruby immediately caught my eye.
I wanted something fun but still classic. I’ve been on a mission to buy fewer, better things this year, focusing more on quality pieces that I can wear year after year and this dress fit the bill. I usually stray away from red because I sometimes feel like when I wear it, the dress enters the room before I do, but for some reason this dress felt different when I put it on. It’s definitely bold, but not over the top, and the silhouette is absolutely timeless.
My favorite detail? The collar. It has a menswear inspired feel of a tuxedo but is so flattering and classic. I love that it’s asymmetrical and stands up like the collar on a blazer, making it the perfect neckline to wear my hair either up or down!
The dress fits true to size, but I actually ended up returning this exact dress for the next size up so the top would fit a little looser ans the collar would lay flat. So if you’re planning to pick up this dress for your own holiday party (which I highly recommend you do) you might want to size up.

If this dress is a little more formal for what you need this holiday season, I pulled a few of my other favorite holiday dresses at a bunch of different price points to make your shopping easier for all of your events in December and January. A lot of the options I pulled would also make great wedding guest dresses! No matter your budget or the formality of your event, there’s something for everyone!
