Travel Memories at Home

I love to travel. I mean really love it, I pretty much do everything else in my life around the goal of making new travel memories. Experiencing new cultures, seeing new, exciting, and beautiful places sparks so much joy for me.

When I travel I take photos of everything, of food, doorways, people in markets, landmarks, and moments. For me, these photos help to slow down what are usually whirlwind trips, they are my way of reminding myself that even though it may feel as it if was fast paced and maybe passed by too quickly, even the most fleeting moments were a beautiful part of it.

Not all the pictures we take are good, in fact there are definitely more bad ones than good. But those moments, my hair blowing in my face because of the wind, expressions on people’s faces, the way the light comes through, all of the energy and movement reminds me that no matter the situation there is beauty to focus on.

Once home, all of the pictures I’ve taken across various devices, the good and the bad end up in a digital wasteland of sorts. They go into folders on my computer with me intending to go back and do something with them, and then usually they just sit there, collecting digital dust.

This year, I got sick of staring at blank walls and decided to brush off some of that digital dust and display some of my favorite travel memories. At first I wasn’t sure the best way or even where to put them.

Enter Framebridge.

I’ve used Framebridge in the past for a small gallery wall in my living room and countless gifts for friends.

If you aren’t familiar, they are an online framing service that, in their words, “makes it easy and affordable to custom frame the art, photos, and memorable moments you love!” And they really do make it easy, you can talk to designers to get ideas, use their system to put your photo in the frame you’re considering to make sure you like the way it looks, schedule a gallery wall consultation to get help designing the perfect gallery wall for your space, and if you are in local to D.C. you can even go in store to see everything in person.

Once I decided to use Framebridge to display our travel memories at home the hardest question was definitely which photos, which of the thousands of moments did I want to see every day?

I selected a blank wall across from my bed that I haven’t known what to do with since moving in, and chose the Triptych to guarantee the photos would be a focal point in any room they were in. When selecting photos, we looked for things that instantly brought us back to a moment in time and reminded us of all the fun we had on that particular trip. After a lot of deliberation we settled on a photo from a trip to Charlottesville we took with friends, a photo of me in Paris, and a holiday photo from last year that we had so much fun taking.

Once the photos arrived I was instantly in love but apprehensive about hanging them. Thankfully, Frambridge makes that part easy too. In the box was a gallery hanging kit that included a guide to ensure the photos are hung exactly they way the gallery is designed. I think all in all it took about 15 minutes to get up on the wall.

I love waking up every morning and seeing these photos, they transport me to some of my favorite recent memories and have inspired me to display more travel memories like these in our home.

The Triptych was gifted to me by Framebridge, but all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that help me to run this little blog 🙂 Photos by Alicia Bruce.
