I love loafers. Especially penny loafers. I don’t really know when my affinity for the classic shoe began but there’s something about the classic, simple design that I have always adored. In recent years they have become an absolute staple in my wardrobe.
A few months ago, I was introduced to a new penny loafer called the Thelma Moneymaker, the company is out of Charleston and the shoes are absolutely incredible. As soon as I saw them I knew I had to have a pair, I loved everything about them from the subtle pointed toe, to the fun colors, and the perfect heel. I did a little bit of research and when reading their about page I felt as if they were writing about me, well a much cooler version of me. They were kind enough to send me these gorgeous orchid penny loafers before I left for Paris and they could not have been more perfect!
I have a pair of brown leather loafers that if you’ve been following for a while, you’ve seen quite a bit over the past couple of years, and while I love them, I’ve always felt that they were a little bit too casual. While they’re perfect for making a simple outfit feel more pulled together, I work in a very formal environment and can’t really get away with wearing them at work most of the time. I wear heels almost every day but because of the nature of my job, I spend a lot of time walking and sometimes heels just aren’t practical. Enter Thelma, they are fun, comfortable, and can be worn in almost every situation I’ve encountered so far, I love how they dress up a simple outfit of jeans and a tshirt but don’t look out of place with a suit or dress!
Alicia snapped this pic of me standing barefoot in Palais Royal while we got some pictures of the penny loafers on the platform, and I had to share. The things we do for the shot sometimes haha!
I have worn them pretty much nonstop since receiving them. They are incredibly comfortable and supportive, and like I said they’re perfect for work and play, but they were really perfect for exploring a new city. I will say, they did require a few days of breaking in before I left, as any good pair of leather shoes does, but thankfully they’re so cute I had no problem wearing them to work (and pretty much everywhere else) in the days leading up to and since the trip. If you’re planning a trip with a lot of walking but want a cute pair of shoes, I can’t recommend the Thelma Moneymaker enough!
We were up and out of our hotel pretty early every morning, we found it was the best way to see some of the more touristy locations like Palais Royal and the Louvre before all the tourists arrived. It was a little drizzly when we left the hotel so I grabbed my new trench and off we went.
Both the Louvre and Palais Royal were pretty much empty, it was so fun to be able to walk around and take in the incredible architecture before people started to arrive. We didn’t actually go into the Louvre, but honestly I think the building itself is a work of art, and while some day I would love to see the Mona Lisa and some of the other incredible pieces they have I was content just wandering around the grounds on this trip. If you don’t have time to go into the museum, I think it’s still absolutely worth an early morning trip to see the museum itself and the gardens!
After, we had thoroughly explored the area we headed off in search of coffee and croissants and came across the cutest cafe right around the corner from both the Louvre and Palais Royal! We grabbed a table at the window and sipped our cappuccinos while deciding where to head off to next.
