So we’ve touched on the amazing Mind, Body and Soul parts of MBS Surf Bali and today I’m going to share with y’all my absolute favorite part: the surfing!
Surfing has been a part of my life forever, my dad taught me how to surf when I was little and I’ve spent many summer days goofing around on his boards with my cousins and friends up in MA. I love spending time in the water, for me it is the absolute best therapy.
Because of my connection to surfing in my mind Bali is synonymous with surfing. I knew from the minute I decided to go that it would be a huge part of my trip and what better way to do that than surfing with Mind Body Soul Surf, a retreat that had a major focus on learning how and improving your surfing skills.
We had the two most incredible surf instructors, Deduk and Desu. They were so great, really understanding of our abilities and goals for the week and so good at pushing us to achieve all of them. Beyond that they were just a ton of fun to have in the water, they were a couple times I shared a wave with Desu and it would end with both of us sitting there laughing at something or another. It made the whole experience that much more enjoyable!
We spent most of our time at Old Man’s surf spot, the one we went to earlier during the trip in Canggu! I was really excited to get back there because the waves were great, long and perfect for me to basically re learn how to surf!
Surfing was the absolute perfect way to marry all the elements of the retreat together. Surfing, but really just being in the water is an extension of everything we were working on with our yoga and meditation, nutrition and overall wellness. Surfing with Mind Body Soul Surf was hands down the highlight of my entire trip to Bali, but I found that it had little to do with the actual surfing. It was just the act of being in the water with incredible people. Our instructors pushed us to succeed and helped us when we were nervous and unsure of our abilities, and we all cheered each other on, laughed when we wiped out and checked in on each other when someone was feeling off. It was amazing how quickly we formed our own little family of sorts out in the water, I loved being out there with them every day.
I can’t wait to get back to Bali to spend more time in the water with Deduk and Desu, I definitely see another retreat in my future, after my week of surfing with Mind Body Soul Surf.
Do any of you surf or have you been on a surfing retreat? I’d love to hear about it!
