I was so excited to be able to spend my last week in Bali focusing on getting back to the mat with Mind Body Soul Surf Retreat. I don’t know that there is a better time to get back into yoga than when you’re on a small, women’s only surf and yoga retreat. In Bali. With the world’s best yoga instructor, who also makes the cutest yoga gear! I’ll be posting about it in the next few weeks but for now stop by her Facebook page and take a peak.
I’ve been wanting to do a yoga retreat for quite some time, it’s even one of the items on my 101 in 1001 list so I was psyched to experience the yoga portion of the Mind Body Soul Surf Retreat! We started each day with an hour of yoga, it was the absolute best way to wake up and prepare for a tough surf session. Being able to essentially, roll out of bed and onto a yoga mat was amazing.
Eli, our instructor was amazing, she let us dictate how intense we wanted the class to be but also had a really good grasp on all of our ability levels and what we were going to need for the day ahead. I couldn’t have asked for a better reintroduction to yoga. Finishing each class with meditation was amazing, meditation has never been my strong suit but has always been something I wanted to introduce into my daily routine. I think a huge reason why I left feeling more grounded and centered was because of the daily yoga and meditation and it’s definitely something I have continued on my own, and I can’t wait to get back to DC so I can find a great studio and start going to yoga all the time!
By the end of the week I felt so much stronger and more flexible, it was so great to be able to get back to the mat with Mind Body Soul Surf because of the environment. I am always so intimidated going to a workout class, especially when I’m not very good at whatever the class is. This way I was able to be in a small setting, with an amazing instructor who helped correct my mistakes and give me pointers to make some of the more challenging poses a little easier.
The combination of yoga and surf was amazing, the yoga was restorative but also gave us all a really good stretch and warm up for our surf sessions. I had forgotten what a workout a surf session can be, and I was more grateful for the yoga each morning than I anticipated.
I’m so thankful I was able to get back to the mat with Mind Body Soul Surf and I can’t wait to incorporate what I learned into my normal routine once I get back home!
Do you do yoga in conjunction with any other activities? I’d love to hear your experiences and tips!
