Life Lately

An update on life lately from lifestyle and travel blogger Brianna Manzelli of bree west.

It’s been a while since I checked in and shared an update on life lately, honestly that’s because I feel like there hasn’t been a ton going on until the last couple of weeks. It’s still nothing major but March seems to be my month the past few years and I find myself getting fairly reflective this time of year. There has consistently been a fairly big change in my life during the month, and this year is no different!

First, and probably most important is – I got a new job!!! I am half way through the first week of my new gig and so far I love it, it’s a lot more in line with what I ultimately want to be doing and overall, just a better situation. It’s no big secret that I didn’t exactly love my last job and I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but I tend to feel super drained when I’m in a situation that I don’t necessarily love, the last thing I want to do is sit down and write a post. A lot of times it felt like I’m just generating content for contents sake and usually it’s garbage, so instead of doing that, I go radio silent. Basically, I’ve been on autopilot and about six weeks ago I started to snap out of it, because you guys have supported me for the last three and a half years and deserve better.

A little bit of my life lately from lifestyle and travel blogger Brianna Manzelli of bree west.

Which leads me to my next update, I’ve been slowly easing back into blogging the last couple of months, after taking a fairly long hiatus for a handful of reasons. The main one being, honestly, a lack of inspiration. I’ve really been focusing on the blog more and without giving too much away, but I have some really exciting things planned in the coming months, including a completely new look. So while things are still slower than they were a year ago, I am spending far more time strategizing and planning for the next couple months, plus working on the back end of things, which is an area I have seriously neglected and am now paying the price for.

Other than my trip to Iceland and Amsterdam coming up on Saturday, that’s really it, but it does mean a few things for around here. First, I will be posting more consistently, which is exciting! Second, my posts are going to be geared a lot more toward travel and style. I’ll still share lifestyle posts here and there but expect to see a lot more travel content, especially more travel guides! Third, while I will continue sharing on social media, I’m likely not going to be focusing quite as much energy there as I have the past year. I love engaging with y’all on social but sometimes it can be draining to have to worry about putting out great and consistent content across so many channels and I want to focus here first and hopefully allow it to filter through to my social platforms! Finally, everything around here is going to look very different soon so stay tuned, and while I have some plans for upcoming content I always love hearing from y’all, so if there’s anything specific you want to see please let me know!

Project Apartment: Tidy Living

Start organizing your life and enter to win a 20 shoe rack from Tidy Living!

Project apartment is coming together, slowly but surely. Since my living room redesign I feel like it feels so much more like home, there’s still a lot to do and first thing on the list is organizing. I have been on a mission to declutter since the beginning of 2017 and it’s been going pretty well so far but I’m still on a mission to reach tidy living status.

Since spring arrived very early here in D.C. I’m embracing it and doing my spring cleaning a little early too! If you’re in the same boat as me and need a little help to achieve tidy living I put together a list of tips to get you started!

1. Pick a space // start with sections and go one at a time, if you try and do everything at once, you’ll likely get overwhelmed and give up… or at least that’s what happens to me every time. Start with one area, I usually like to start with my closet/dresser, and then once that is done you can move onto the next!

2. Pull everything out // The best way to figure out what needs to go and what should stay is to pull it all out and sort it into piles.

3. Go through everything // Go through every single piece, whether it’s clothes or just stuff, and ask yourself when you last used it, when you’ll use it next and if you really need it. I have a 6 month rule, if I’m not going to or haven’t used it in 6 months it gets tossed.

4. Don’t be overly sentimental // I get really nostalgic and sentimental when spring cleaning which usually results in me keeping a whole bunch of crap that I don’t need or ever use. This year I’m trying really hard to be less sentimental, I’m not talking about getting rid of the important stuff, but I probably don’t need the envelope that someone sent me 2 years ago.

5. Put it all back // Once you’ve narrowed down what you’re keeping, it’s time to put it all back, which doesn’t mean just shoving it all in your closet or shelf so it will become a mess again. A major addition to my closet this year is a shoe rack and it has been life changing, and I’m in the process of replacing all the baskets in my built ins to make them look a bit nicer. But that stuff can add up fast and before you know it you’ve spent your grocery budget on bins, shelves, hangers etc., which, while necessary, is really not practical.

I recently discovered a new company called Tidy Living and they have some great organizational options for a really reasonable price. I’ve partnered with them to give you all 10% your purchase with the code “BREEWEST”, but we’re also giving away my favorite new addition to my closet. Enter below to win a shoe rack, this one holds 20 pairs and has been seriously helpful in diminishing some of my closet clutter which is really nice!

October in Review + November Goals

November Goals

And just like that it is officially birthday month. Today I’m not just sitting here wondering where on earth October went, I’m wondering where the last year went. It’s unbelievable to me all that has happened in the past year. But you’ve heard me go on and on about that for quite a while now so I won’t bore you with that today!

November Goals

October brought another trip to Maine and Boston, an absolutely incredible Adele concert, a few weekends hanging out in DC, a really fun blogger brunch with some of my favorite DC bloggers and lots of events and a really fun Halloweekend with some of my oldest friends. It was an amazingly full month and that’s probably why it went by so quickly. Time flies when you’re having fun right?

November Goals

I’m really excited to see what this month has in store, it’s my favorite month of the year and I have some big November goals! This time of the year is my favorite, in DC fall is really in full swing by the time November rolls around (although it was 80 degrees the other day so we’ll see how that goes), there are so many November birthdays and the holiday season is starting to kick off! Plus Thanksgiving, which is my favorite holiday of all is in November.

November Goals

food // this one is honestly getting old to have to put at the top of my list but I have got to stop eating so much takeout. Sorry Postmates and UberEats. Hopefully this month I’ll finally be able to stop giving you 3/4 of my paycheck.

running // I’ve been exercising pretty consistently this month but I really miss running and it’s something I really want to work on getting back into.

wellness // really all my goals this month are wellness focused but one of the biggest ones for me is incorporating more mindfulness and meditation into my day to day life and reduce some of the stress that’s been infiltrating my life.

blogging // with the holidays right around the corner I have lots of fun things coming up this month for bree west. I can’t wait to see how they all play out and as always would love any and all input for what you’d like to see more/less of around here!

What are some of your November goals?
