Every year since I can remember, Christmas morning has started with my sister and I waking up and my parents making us wait at the top of the stairs while they go and “make sure Santa came the night before.” Every. Single. Year. My dad goes downstairs and finishes arranging any presents under the tree, puts out glasses of egg nog and orange juice and gets the fire going before finally letting us come downstairs. Even now at 24 and 20, I imagine we will still be held captive at the top of the stairs while my parents go and make sure Santa came. When they finally allow us downstairs, the very first thing we do is open our stockings.
My mom is the best at picking out little gifts and stocking stuffers, and it’s usually my favorite part of christmas morning. Those stockings are like little treasure troves! I think she must collect things all year long and hang onto them just for the stockings. It’s the best collection of everything from cotton rounds (which I seem to always be out of) to fun little gifts like these.
